Political competence is an integral part of nursing since nurses should become part of the creation of health policies by the political system. According to Cervera-Gasch et al (2022), political competencies is requisite within the nursing profession since it can assist in intervening in the broad socioeconomic and environmental determinants of health. Nurses are very critical at the local and the state level and they can also determine the implementation of strategic health systems in all areas of health. Certainly, the views made by Clarke et al (2021), shows that the implementation of organizational change within the health care sector require concerted efforts since it is extremely difficult to implement these changes. As a result, it is essential to involve nurses in the decision-making process. Moreover, the nurses can also be involved in bringing policy decisions to discussions for instance, in the current COVID-19 pandemic nurses were at the forefront in providing comprehensive care to their patients. Such knowledge since they dealt with patients first hand enabled policy makers in determining some of the strategies to be adopted in providing medication and the type of vaccine to administer to the affected patients and the entire populace.
Basically, political competence by the nursing profession has the ability to change specific policies made by the government as such it is important that nurses take that role to influence policy changes.

Florence Nightingale serves as an actual example of powerful legislative activism that proved the importance of nursing’s direct engagement in politics. She strived politically for healthful conditions and safer community provisions. One example of a politically competent nurse would be Karen Bass, who was elected to the 112th Congress in 2011 (Patton et al., 2018, p. 333). She inaugurated and managed the Community Coalition in Los Angeles; it is a community-based organization fighting for social justice and struggles to involve local citizens in tackling injustice at the local level. I think we always see political competence every day; it takes place daily by our nurses. Although we know nurses have historically had little association in politics and policy. Multiple factors limit the nursing profession’s implied impact on politics; the truth continues that nurses are essential to the improvement and implementation of healthcare policy and care. Nurses’ impact on well-being order preserves the kind of care by access to required resorts and possibilities. Political activism is to bring nurses importance to political conversations and choices. Welliver (2020) stated that locally, nurses could become politically active by assuming leadership positions in the healthcare system or contacting elected officials about legislation affecting the industry. The author added that “At the state and federal level, nurses can get involved in policy and politics by joining a professional nursing organization” (Welliver, 2020).
